News for local breweries in Arizona

SanTan Brewing Company has recently joined with Crescent  Crown Distributing which means they can now sell cans, growlers, and kegs.  Currently there are 6 beers in production and I reconmend every single one! Devil’s Ale, Epicenter Amber Ale, Gordo Stout, HefeWeizen Wheat, HopShock IPA, and Sunspot Gold. Great brewing company considering they are only 3 (yes I said 3) years old!!!!!!

Old World Brewery also has new news to share.  They have just joined with Hensley distributors! Also, their Nitro Blonde will be available in cans in October!  Very exciting.  Head over to the Native New Yorker in Anthem or  Renagade in N. Scottsdale to give a taste, these  restaurants are  new accounts for Old World Brewery.

If you have more local brewery news, please leave me a comment and I’ll post it.

Have a beer and enjoy the weekend!

Good Word on Four Peaks

I’ve never been to Four Peaks Brewery, but have heard a lot about it.  There are 2 locations here in Phoenix.  One in Tempe and one in Scottsdale.  Both have their own vibe and atmosphere.   I need to check this place out.  I hear the Kilt Lifter is the favorite.  I do like Amber beers.

So if you are close by this bar, hop in and grab a stool. I’m gonna recommend it just from hearsay.  Check it out and tell me about it.  If you’ve been there already, what is your favorite flavor?

Anyone know what their seasonal beer on tap is right now?  I always like trying seasonal beers when I can.  Hopefully Four Peaks lives up to the hype.

FIFA Ejects Dutch Fans for Miniskirt Beer Marketing Ploy

What the heck don’t people know that beer and women go together?   It’s like peanut butter and jelly.  To not have beer and women it’s almost un-american.  ???????????  Oh well to each his own.

Dutch Beer Mini SkirtFIFA has accused Bavaria, a Dutch brewery, of engaging in ambush marketing for using a group of women to advertise its beer at the World Cup.

BBC News reported Tuesday that FIFA ejected 36 Dutch fans from Monday’s match between the Netherlands and Denmark midway through the second half in Johannesburg.

The report said that all were dressed identically in tight-fitting orange dresses, which were part of a gift pack from the brewery.

“What seems to have happened is that there was a clear ambush marketing activity by a Dutch brewery company,” said FIFA spokesman Nicholas Maingot, according to the BBC. “What we are doing, actually, at the moment, is that we are looking into all available legal remedies against this brewery.”

The group of Dutch women were dressed more like Hooters waitresses than your run-of-the-mill soccer hooligan. FIFA officials, it seems, would rather the latter.

The World Cup’s official beer is Budweiser, which paid millions of dollars for that right, according to the BBC. FIFA covets its marketing relationships, so much so that the BBC reported that the organization “vigorously pursues” anyone who infringes on that territory.

According to the report, none of the women were arrested. However, they were grilled about their dresses and affiliation with the brewery. A Bavaria board member told Reuters that FIFA’s reaction was ridiculous, according to the report.

“FIFA does not have the monopoly on orange and people have the freedom to wear what they want,” he said

“Free Beer Tomorrow”

The above is one of my favorite bar signs ever. I thought that it was hilarious when I first saw it. I didn’t realize then that it is the new motto of the Republican Party.

Once again, Republicans are trying to use the filibuster, this time to block debate on the financial reform bill to stop commercial banks from trading for their own benefit with taxpayer-backed money, which even Paul Volcker supports. As with health care reform, they insist that they are in favor of reform, just not this particular reform. As Mort Sahl once said, “A conservative is someone who believes in reform. But not now.” If they ever propose anything, it won’t do anything useful or offend their Wall Street masters. I wish that it were funny.

Tuesday

Great day at work today.  We had a seminar that helps business owners.  We have a program that allows your business to purchase advertising by paying for it with your goods and services.  Had a decent turn out for the seminar.  I saw our good friends from Old World Brewery there.

If you haven’t had a chance to taste the beer from Old World Brewery AND you live in AZ, you are missing out.  Awesome beer, awesome people, and a great little brewery.

After work, I headed down the road to The Curve.  Heard they had a special on their home-made stuffed cabbage roll and home-made mashed potatoes.  HOLY CRAP IT’S GOOD.  Had a pitcher to wash it down too.  Tomorrow they are making pork chops bone in.  Give it a whirl.  It’s a nice local neighborhood bar.

If you want more info on this advertising program, just send me a comment and I’ll hook you up.

Weekend

On Saturday, a bunch of us from work got together and played  a few innings of softball.  We had a great time.  Hopefully it will become a regular thing.  Nothing is better than an evening of softball, beer, and good friends.  I’m a little sore today since I slid into third and scraped up my leg pretty good.  I look like raw meat.

Once it starts getting really hot here in AZ, we can go bowling or something.  Cosmic and Midnight bowling rock.  I used to bowl a few times when I was living in North Carolina.  I remember one night I was out with the girlfriend and got pretty drunk.  I went into the bathroom and someone had put a bowling ball into the toilet.  It was funny.  Sucks to be the guy who had to get it out though.

Hope your weekend was as good as mine.

Something To Think About

Drinking beer doesn’t make you fat, It makes you lean….
Against bars, tables, chairs, and poles.

Alcohol may be man’s worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy.”   Frank Sinatra

Sometimes too much to drink is barely enough.”  Mark Twain

Responsible Drinking? Now that’s an Oxymoron.”  Aaron Howard

When you stop drinking, you have to deal with this marvelous personality that started you drinking in the first place.”  Jimmy Breslin

Here’s to alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.”  Homer Simpson

I drink no more than a sponge”  Francois Rebelais

I liked these and wanted to pass them along.  If you can think of any more good quotes, I’d love to read them. – Beerguy

“Hooray for happy hours!”

Bars and lounges have long offered “happy hours” once a day or once a week in which drinks are significantly cheaper than usual. This worries many people because some people use it as an opportunity to buy too many drinks, get drunk, and then drive.

But it doesn’t have to be like that. Happy hour can be a good thing, if done in moderation. Medical science tells us that people who drink alcohol in moderation are healthier than people who don’t drink any alcohol. After a hard day at work, it is good for people to vent and sort out what has been happening at the work-site. It is a good way to relax. Also, it is important for people to spend time socializing.

Don’t over do it, but if you like happy hour, go for it – it should be good for you.

What’s Your Favorite Leinie Flavor?

a_lein-botls1

I recently visited another beer blog site, and they were discussing one of the many Leinenkugel’s Beers.  I thought about it for a while and decided this is great beer.  It’s from the Midwest where I’m from and it deserves a shout out.

Have you ever even tried a Leinie?  They have flavors for anyone.  They’ve got Classic Amber, Red, Several Berry flavors, Wheat beers, and the list goes on.

A hot summer day is complete with a good cold Lienie.  It doesn’t matter on flavor for me, although I can’t drink too many of the berry ones at once.

I like to tell people I’m the reason Greensboro, NC started stalking their shelves with the beer.  I had to keep requesting it at the Total Wine and Wine Warehouse stores and they finally brought it in.  They couldn’t keep the stuff on the shelves. People know good beer when they taste it.

Next time you walk down the beer aisle at the grocery store or liquor store, pick up a six pack and give this beer a try.  It’s worth the money.

If you’ve had this beer, what is your favorite flavor?
